Best of 2010

2010 has come to an end, so it's time for me to tell you my favourite reads this year. Some were revelations, some were surprises, but all were amazing! If you haven't read them yet, do so in 2011, who knows, maybe they'll end up on your Best of 2011 list ;-)

Here are my top reads of 2010 in no particular order:

Magic Bites (Kate Daniels, Book 1)

I discovered the fantastic Kate Daniels series thanks to blogging, I only read the first 2 books yet, but I fell hard for it and I hear it keeps getting better!

 Master of None

If you aren't living under a rock you must have heard my uncessant praise of this novel. Even though I've read it in MAy, I still can't get over how much I LOVED this novel. I fell passionately for the story, the writing and the humour: Master of None by Sonya Bateman is exquisite! If you want to read an incredibly funny, witty, original urban fantasy (told by a male narrator), pick up Master of None, you’ll be in for a treat!

Touched by an Alien

Where should I begin when telling you why TBAA is such an awesome book? This novel is hilarious (every single page made me crack up laughing), witty, romantic yet exciting. It has everything: swoonworthy hero(es), a kickass funny heroine, steamy love scenes, crackup sidekick charcters and more! I could go on and on raving about TBAA, but trust me it's better if you read it yourself, you won't be able to put it down! (I'm terribly grateful this was the debut book in the series, I want more!)

Mind Games (The Disillusionists Trilogy: Book 1)

I passionately LOVE this book! I devoured it in no time and had serious withdrawal symptoms once it was over! I loved the neck-breaking speed action, the emotional rollercoaster, the steamy romance and the chuckle out loud humour of this story. Carolyn Crane’s writing is fantastic, the story will suck you in and won’t let you go until you gobbled it up! (again so glad this is the 1st book of the series!)

"Promise is a fantastic epic love story. The paranormal Romeo and Juliet. Better than Twilight!!"

Kristie Cook's debut novel is of extraordinary quality: the writing is beautiful, the characters are developed in depth, the plot is complex and layered. A fantastic debut to an exciting new series!

I found Laura's gritty urban fantasy universe gripping and her writing style not simply evocative but spellbinding. I'm so glad this is part of a series!

Beautiful Malice: A Novel

I hated YA novels because the constant whining, immature drama queen characters frustrated me too much, and I owe it to 2 fantastic novels which restored my faith in YA novels and made me appreciate this genre: one of them is Beautiful Malice by Rebecca James, the other is Hush Money by Susan Bischoff.

Beautiful Malice was an outstanding, chilling read. Rebecca James’ writing style is exceptional and without a pair! Beautiful Malice and Rebecca's writing style reminded me of Daphne Du Marier's most famous novel: Rebecca (adapted into a movie by Hitchcock): the way the tension kept on escalating and you felt like a train wreck was about to happen but you couldn't look away (also the structure of the novel is very original). Give Beautiful Malice a try, besides having a teenager as protagonist, the story and its tone is incredibly mature. Rebecca James is a extraordinary new author to watch and Beautiful Malice is a chilling thriller that will keep you affected long after having read it!

Hush Money (Talent Chronicles)

This was the other YA novel which convinced me not to write off this genre. Susan Bischoff's writing is evocative and brilliant, the premise of the novel is freshly unique and exciting, for YA lovers, for UF fans or paranormal, Supernatural groupies, this one is a hit! You can read my review here.

Vampire Academy Box Set 1-4
(especially book 3-4 and 5 (haven't read book 6 yet): Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise and Spirit Bound)

I didn't know what all the hype was about until I started reading this series and got sucked in! Richelle Mead's original vampire universe gripped me and I LOVED the emotional depth and gloominess she explored even in a YA series, I will definitely check out her adult ones!

The First Love Cookie Club

Where to begin? I want to sing the praises of this book because I completely fell in love with it! The First Love Cookie Club is the ultimate Christmas/holiday read that accompanies perfectly those festive romantic feel good family movies. A heartwarming, sweet contemporary romance, you just need the cookies and the hot cocoa and you're set :-)

And those who deserve the honourable mention:

Exit Strategy (Nadia Stafford Series, Book 1)

The Strangely Beautiful Tale of Miss Percy Parker

My Soul to Lose  My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers Book 1)  My Soul to Save (Soul Screamers Book 2)

The Faithful

Just Right (The Bradfords)  Just Like That: The Bradfords, Book 2  Just My Type: The Bradfords, Book 3
