I have another guest today speaking about a very important topic, one that as soon I heard about knew that I wanted to help spread the word.
I have always been passionate about raising awareness about grave societal issues, and especially ones pertaining to women and children. I wrote my university diploma thesis on child abuse and what gave me the best feeling of accomplishment and joy was not getting a perfect grade and being praised by my professors but when my thesis advisor and the committee thanked me for introducing to them a subject they were not familiar with in such detail and depth.
When I talked with people I always saw the raised eyevbrows and some even dared to ask me why I chose this dreadful topic. I haven't personally experienced any of these horrors, thank god I have the best parents and the world's most ideal dad, and that is exactly why I dared to explore and delve into this revolting and distressing topic. It's because of my parents' fortifying love that I felt strong enough to read and study some of the horrors committed against women and children and wanted to do everything I could to spread the word and raise awareness.
So I'm glad to cede my blog for a guest post to Laura Kreitzer so she can tell you all about another horrific issue: human trafficking. And no, don't think this is a problem which doesn't concern the US and Europe, because sadly it is a very real problem.
Please read what Laura has to say and I hope you will open your ears (and heart) to the problem.
The main character, Summer Waverly, was stolen as a child and sold as a slave to the captain of a modern-day pirate ship. From a loved child who only knew “time-out” as punishment, to being whipped into silence was something I knew nothing about. So I researched deeply into human trafficking and the psychological effects of torture of various types that one would endure in these circumstances. I felt shaken at my findings and knew I had to tell Summer’s story. (Read a sneak peek here.)
“DNA hopes to help abolish modern day slavery, deter perpetrators, and free the many innocent and exploited victims. We are committed to forcing sex slavery out of the shadows and into the spotlight.
Freedom is a basic human right and slavery is one of the greatest threats to that freedom. No one has the right to enslave another person.”
