Interview with a half-demon by Felicity Heaton

A big thank you to the lovely Stella for having me here today as part of my Paranormal Pandemonium 2011 Blog Tour for my eight book releases this year.

In case you haven’t heard of me and you’re wondering “Who’s this crazy lady?”, I’ll introduce myself. I’m Felicity Heaton and I’m a prolific paranormal romance author. I’ve penned over forty stories under the names Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton, and have over thirty books for sale (or some of them are free downloads) at the moment. Most of them are paranormal romances about vampires, werewolves, shape-shifters or dark angels, but I do also write some science-fiction romance stories too.

AscensionMy latest book, Ascension, is the first book in my new Shadow and Light Trilogy series. It’s a passionate and action-packed urban fantasy romance featuring a powerful kick-ass witch heroine, Lealandra, and a snarky kick-ass dark half-demon hero, Taig. Today, I’m going to interview Taig and get his perspective on Ascension and the events that happen in it.

FH: I have Taig here with me today to talk about his book, Ascension. Firstly, can you tell us a little about yourself?

Taig: I’m not really one to talk about myself, but this is gonna be a fairly boring interview if I don’t, isn’t it? You’ve got that look that says I’ve got to do what you say. Lea has that look too sometimes. A bloke knows when he isn’t going to win, so I’ll do the uncharacteristic thing and surrender. *blows out a sigh* I’m a half-demon. Before the events that happened in my story, I wasn’t at all good with that fact. My folks disappeared when I was a kid and now they’re dead to me, and my hatred of my demonic heritage and my father drove me to hunt demons. I’m the best at what I do, and that hasn’t changed now that I’m more comfortable with my demon blood. I still hunt marks for money, and I’m damn good at it, even better now that I don’t hesitate in using my full strength and tapping into my demonic powers.

FH: And of course because you’ve paired up with Lealandra again. She’s certainly a witch who can hold her own.

Taig: Hell, yes. I wouldn’t mess with her. Witches fight dirty and there’s plenty of times I can see she wants to use a spell on my arse to take me down a few pegs in the power stakes and shut me the hell up when I’m running my mouth off during our fights.

FH: Can you tell us about what happened in your story?

Taig: The last thing I expected. Lealandra walked back into my life after an ungodly amount of time and shook my world all over again. As soon as I realised that she had started her ascension and was vulnerable to the dangers of the process, and that she had some unsavoury characters gunning for her demise too, I just had to help her out. I wasn’t about to stand by and let some two-bit demons take her out. I vowed to protect her and I was going to do just that. It took facing my own personal demons to find the strength to save her from her own power and the bastards after her, but I would have done anything for her in that moment. She needed me, and I came through, just as I always will with her. And if she brings me a fight, well, all the better. There’s only one thing I love more than a fight. *grins*

FH: And I know exactly what that is. Speaking of Lealandra, you were apart for six years after she left you. How did you meet and how did you feel about them initially?

Taig: Hey, that’s a low blow, lady. There’s no need to go bringing up the fact that she left me. If it wasn’t her for snivelling counter-balance, she would have stayed with me and she would have been safe. The New York City coven has a special dark place in my heart. You wouldn’t even have to pay me to make me fight half the creeps in it for what they did in taking Lea from me. I’m not sure how I felt or what I was thinking when Lealandra walked into the bar that night and back into my life. I was shell-shocked at first, unable to believe what I was seeing. Sure, resentment runs deep between us and I wasn’t about to forgive her for what she did, but, Hell, she was beautiful and I was falling all over again from the moment I set eyes on her. We share the sort of passion that never goes away. It burned as embers within me waiting for the day that she walked back into my dark world and brought it back to life with a single smile. It was hard at first to figure out what my feelings were. The demon in me… the man in me… both of them hated her for what she did, and it all battled the desire I felt for her. I was this close to flipping out from it all, but she showed me that she still felt something for me, and I couldn’t resist her after that.

FH: Your relationship with Lealandra is complicated and forbidden. It must have been hard for you to forgive her when you had been through so much because of her.

Taig: It was. I’m not the sort of bloke who easily forgives and I don’t forget. There’s still times even now when I remember everything that happened the day that she left me, and after that, and I have to take myself off somewhere and brood about it, or kill something. She didn’t know the damage she was doing though… and she did try to tell me stuff that I wasn’t willing to hear at the time. I’ve grown a lot since then, and I’m more comfortable in my real skin now, showing my demonic side to her. I know she loves both sides of me and that I was an idiot for not believing her back then.

FH: How has life been since the events that happened and brought you together?

Taig: It’s been good. I took Lea back to my family home in England and she’s been spending a ridiculous amount of time with the local ancient witches. They’ve formed quite a bond now and she’s learning a lot about her power. She’s not the only one discovering things about themselves though. The more comfortable I become with my demon blood, and the more books I read in my family’s library, the more I learn about myself. Not all of it is good, but Lea is there to talk reason into my head and calm me down when things get a little rough.

FH: Your story, Ascension, is a book in a series. Can you tell us a little about the series and can we expect see more of you in other stories in this series?

Taig: Well, I’m the hero, aren’t I? *grins* The trilogy revolves around my relationship with Lealandra, and the moves we make in it, and the consequences they have. It’s certainly going to be a rollercoaster ride and I hope readers have their safety belts tightly buckled. Ascension is just the tip of the iceberg… it’s a super-sonic downhill run from here.

FH: Describe yourself in one word?

Taig: Enigmatic

FH: Enigmatic? It certainly suits you but I would have gone with something more like, deadly or moody, or maybe snarky. Thank you for meeting with me today and chatting. Is there anything else that you’d like to add?

Taig: Only that I look forward to hearing what readers think of me, Lealandra, and our mad story. Personally, I think they’d be crazy to miss it. It’s got everything in spades. Kick-arse action and some serious passion *winks* and me of course. What’s not to love about me? If readers want a little monster in their man, then here I am, and here’s my story.

If anyone has any questions they want to pose to Taig, or to myself as the author, I’d be happy to answer them if you leave a comment on this blog post.

Biography:

Felicity Heaton is a romance author writing as both Felicity Heaton and F E Heaton. She is passionate about penning paranormal tales full of vampires, witches, werewolves, angels and shape-shifters, and has been interested in all things preternatural and fantastical since she was just a child. Her other passion is science-fiction and she likes nothing more than to immerse herself in a whole new universe and the amazing species therein. She used to while away days at school and college dreaming of vampires, werewolves and witches, or being lost in space, and used to while away evenings watching movies about them or reading gothic horror stories, science-fiction and romances.

Having tried her hand at various romance genres, it was only natural for her to turn her focus back to the paranormal, fantasy and science-fiction worlds she enjoys so much. She loves to write seductive, sexy and strong vampires, werewolves, witches, angels and alien species. The worlds she often dreams up for them are vicious, dark and dangerous, reflecting aspects of the heroines and heroes, but her characters also love deeply, laugh, cry and feel every emotion as keenly as anyone does. She makes no excuses for the darkness surrounding them, especially the paranormal creatures, and says that this is their world. She’s just honoured to write down their adventures.
