July Flashback

I missed out on June again due to all the special events (Spotlight on Fairy Tales Retold and H&W Investigations UF series) taking place in July (see below), but I am back for the inventory of what happened in July.

July was a very busy month: I am very satisfied with the amount of books I've read and reviewed and loved putting together the special events, they were so much fun! So overall I'm very happy at what a productive month it was.

Books read:
  1. Seduction and Scandal by Charlotte Featherstone (Book #1 in the Brethren Guardians series)
  2. Finding Perfect by Susan Mallery (Book #3 in the Fool's Gold series)

  4. Deceived by the Others by Jess Haines (Book #3 in the H and W Investigations series)
  5. The Secret Guide to Dating Monsters by Sierra Dean (Book # 0.5 in the Secret McQueen series)
  6. Kathryn, the Kitten by Lavinia Kent

 Books reviewed:

  3. Taken by the Others by Jess Haines
  4. Deceived by the Others by Jess Haines

  6. The Secret Guide to Dating Monsters by Sierra Dean
  7. Nightwalker by Jocelynn Drake
  8. Spiderwork by L.K. Rigel
  9. Bleeder by L.K. Rigel

Books I liked the best this month:

Again a month full of great books, was hard to limit it to only my top 3, but here they are (in no particular order):

The Secret Guide to Dating Monsters: A Secret McQueen story

If you follow the blog you must know how much I love this series, and this prequel novella did not disappoint! It was fantastic as you can see in my review.

Kathryn, The Kitten

I LOVE Lavinia Kent's writing! Her novels are evocative, well developed and heartsqueezing (one of the tell-tale signs of a great novel is if I get goosebumps or feel my heart do some little flips). This is the first novella in her witty desperate housewives-esque historical romance series, a wonderful read!

Stray (Shifters Book 1)

And the best for last! Or at least one that is the most fresh in my mind since I read it on the very last day of July. I immediately fell for Rachel Vincent's Shapeshifter UF series. She mixes the perfect ingredients (wonderful and interesting characters, breakneck action, heartclutching romance, chuckle out loud humour and brilliant writing) and the result is fantastic! I gobbled up the first two books in one day each and couldn't stop myself from starting Book #3 as soon as I was done with Book #2.

Book I liked the least this month:

Seduction & Scandal (Hqn)

This novel was simply not for me: I found it overly melodramatic and the gothic exaggeration was not to my taste. You can read my detailed review here.

July was very busy. First I had a two week-long Spotlight on Fairy Tales Retold event full with book reviews, author guest posts, giveaways and other fairy tale related posts (further book recommendations, blogger/author testimonials, etc.)

then we celebrated the release of Jess Haines' 3rd book in the H&W Investigations series.

It was also Netgalley month! I read 8 NG books, which is more than I did in April (when I completed 6), but hope to outdo this next time.
