Character Interview with James and Tate by Elle Aycart + Giveaway

Button made by the very talented Susi! Thank you!!

One of the best book surprises of 2011 was More than Meets the Ink a steamy contemporary romance penned by Elle Aycart. (To see why it was such a great novel you can read my review here). So I am very happy to introduce you today to the hero and heroine of the story, please give a warm welcome to James Bowen and Tate Cooper from More Than Meets The Ink by Elle Aycart!

Q: I heard you guys are both from Boston but met in Florida, is that right?"

James: Yes, we met in a retirement community of all places. I went there to visit my Dad and arrived to his condo just in time to stop commando chick here and her mom, dad's new neighbour, from breaking and entering.
Tate: We weren't breaking in, yet. Yes we were crawling through his garden, but I'm sure I would have gotten my mom to see the light before she busted the lock with her credit card. Mom was going through a rough patch, and she'd gotten in her head that James's dad had kidnapped Amy. Her cat.

James (turns to Tate and winks): I didn't mind the incursion, princess. You were on all four, your sweet ass was pointing to the sky. All and all sexiest commando chick I've ever had the pleasure to intercept.

Q: Was it love at first sight?

James (laughs): For Tate more like hate at first sight. She took a glance at my dragon tattoo sleeve and that was it, closed down totally. I was tried and convicted on the spot. Tate equated tattoos with bad boys, and bad boys with good-for-nothing assholes. What was what you called me? Ah yes; a black hole wrapped up in frilly paper. Way to reduce me to a frigging social stereotype.

Tate (shrugs): I admit I was prejudiced, but I have a sister with a tattooed bad boy addiction. Believe me, those guys are bad news. And James totally looked the part; he got the rogue looks, the macho attitude, the ink. To top all that I found out his tattoos marked pivotal moments in his life. He got one for his divorce, one for when he received his second black belt, and another for when he came back from the army. Need I to say more? It was a miracle I didn't run for the hills.

James: I didn't see you objecting much to my newest tattoo.

Tate (smiles): No, I didn't. At all.

Q: What about you James, was it love at first sight?

James: Pretty much. But she just wanted to use me for sex, can you believe it? And then to add insult to injury we were stuck in Eternal Sun resort, full of seniors dragging us to all sort of activities, from golf to bingo to God knows what, refusing to give us any privacy. And all along she was twitching her ass at me. Talk about making a guy sweat.

Tate (laughing): I wasn't twitching my ass at you. And if I recall correctly, you were the one line dancing in the common area with all those perky grandmas, skyrocketing everybody's blood pressure to the moon. They loved him down there, tried to fix him up with all their female relatives under 35.

James: Offers I always respectfully declined, I even had a rule about sex and Florida. But then I met Tate and all my good intentions flew out the window.

Tate: I wanted to resist him, I truly did, but he was so damn charming. And sexy and funny I didn't stand a chance. My life was a total mess back then, I couldn't risk getting involved with someone like him, but I thought we could have a no-string-attached holiday fling and leave it at that.

(James snorts)

Tate: Yeah, James agreed to the holiday fling, but I guess he was just humouring me because once I got back to Boston, he tracked me down and I pretty soon realized it wasn't going to be so easy to keep him out of my life. You see, James has selective deafness and hears only whatever he wants to hear.

James: That's right. I knew Tate was scared, but I wasn't going to let her run from me. She put a hell of a fight though. Half the time I wanted to kiss her silly, the other half I wanted to strangle her.

Tate: It was a very bad time for me, I was a total wreck. My dad and brother had died in a car accident the year before, my mom and sister had bailed out and left me to take care of the family restaurant, which by the way was going down the drain, and I had my own private stalker to content with. I was treading water as it was, I thought relying on someone like James would sink me for good.

Q: James, when did you start thinking she might come around?

James: I knew I'd wear her resistance down, but I'd say the turning point was when she bought me a bed.

Q: She bought you a bed?

James (nods and grins): Awesome uh? Beats the hell out of a tie. I got her a ring. Not for her hands.

Tate blushes and elbows him.

Q: What can you guys tell us about your life now? What are your plans for the future?

James (smirks): We're getting married soon. If we survive the bachelor and bachelorette party, that is. Elle, Tate's sis, is in charge of hers, my baby brother Max is in charge of mine.

Tate (laughs): I wouldn't be surprised if you end up drunk up to your eyeballs and in a cargo ship en route to Australia.

James: Yeah, Max is a bit wild. Cole, my older brother, is supposed to be vetoing whatever crazy ideas Max gets, but I'm not sure he's up for the job.

Tate (smirks): Cole has met someone, so he's been a bit distracted.

James: Distracted? More like sweating bullets. Poor guy.

Q: One last question Tate; what happened to your mom's cat, had James's Dad kidnapped her?

James (grins, Tate too): Not exactly.

More Than Meets The Ink by Elle Aycart

Wickedly sexy James Bowen is a bad boy of the highest order -- tattoos and attitude included -- which unfortunately ranks way up on Tate's not-a-chance-in-hell list, right there along with skydiving naked over Teheran and juggling Ebola vials just for kicks. But what the heck, she's on holiday, the guy is absolutely irresistible, and she needs to unplug from her life. With her dad and brother gone, Tate is left to deal with the family restaurant, which is fast going down the drain. Her employees are acting out, her boyfriend has bailed out, and her very own private stalker is emailing her to death with lovely threats of doom, fire, and dismemberment. So yeah, maybe a little holiday fling is in order. Strictly sex though, and no follow-up whatsoever once.

She hadn't counted on her take-charge holiday fling having an opinion of his own and stubbornly sticking around, before and after the sex, making himself at home in her life. There is definitely more to James than meets her prejudiced eye, and even if she's not ready to look deeper, James isn't prepared to permit her not to.
