Movies That Feed My Muse
by Sasha Summers

Thanks so much for having me on your lovely blog today!

I guess it’s a little obvious I’m a movie-holic. But if it’s not – I will come forth right now and say, “Yes, I am a movie addict. I am full of ridiculously useless tidbits of entertainment trivia and I am proud.”

Since I’ve let that cat out of the bag, I thought I’d mention a couple of movies that inspired and influenced Hollywood Ever After.

1. Notting Hill – Sure my take is a bit fli-flopped. My story is a male British actor and a female American ‘every-woman’ – but I did to tap into that surreal separation of real-life/real-person versus the celebrity persona we tend to assign actors.

What’s more - I loved this movie for the ensemble cast – such a funny, sweet, balanced crew that I wanted for my characters.

2. The Holiday – Yes, Hollywood Ever After has an instant love story. And while Jude Law and Cameron Diaz’ characters hook up while he’s completely inebriated, I have Josh and Claire click without much to fuzzy their minds. And, like Notting Hill, there were charming secondary characters that added depth to the story – especially the kids. Kids can say and do things that adult characters can’t get away with. :-)

3. Love Actually – I think I love everything about this movie. Each and every character was a gem, even the bad-guy (a lothario Billy-Bob Thornton) offered something to enjoy. It really helped me work on fleshing out secondary characters that were memorable. I think that’s why this book became the first in a series – too many great characters NOT to write a story for.

4. My Big Fat Greek Wedding – Claire’s transformation might not be as obvious, but she does go through a self-discovery. And Ian, he was truly instrumental in Josh. I mean, Ian would do pretty much anything to show/prove/gain Toula’s love. And Josh would do the same (if a little more dangerous) for Claire.

Thanks so much for letting me share some of my favorite movies and how their stories and characters impacted my novel: Hollywood Ever After.

She wasn’t meant for movie stars, Hollywood, or happy endings. And then she met him.

Happy Endings are for fairy tales. Or the movies. Not for real life. At least, not in Claire’s life. Even though she’s starting over, she knows better than to want too much this time. But when she falls, literally, into the strong arms of Hollywood’s ‘it’ boy Josh Wiley, Claire’s in for some surprises. Her plans for rest and relaxation are forgotten as one incredible night with Josh becomes two… And her heart begins to want him as much as her body. Will two kids, one bastard ex-husband, and Josh’s juggernaut career mean the end of their affair? Or can Claire find her happy ending after all?

Sasha Summers is part gypsy. Her passions have always been storytelling, history, romance, and travel. She writes both lyrical romantic fantasy and contemporary romance. Her first play was written for her Girl Scout troupe. She's been writing ever since.

She loves getting lost in the worlds and characters she creates; even if she frequently forgets to run the dishwasher or wash socks when she's doing so. Luckily, her four brilliant children and hero-inspiring hubby are super understanding and supportive.
