The Inspiration Behind the Story
by Margo Anne Rhea

Writing Danny took me outside my comfort zone as a writer. But, it all started with a dream.

During an afternoon nap, I dreamt that my significant other, “Danny”, and I were going through a divorce culminating from emotional distance and lack of intimacy. We were also sleeping with the same woman. She was just an idea, an abstract figure in the dream, but she was such an integral part of the emotion I felt.

When I woke, my heart was drumming 1,000 beats a minute and my mind was racing right along with it. My whole being was tingling with the tension, the heartbreak of losing the man I loved and rediscovering too late my desire to be with him. I needed to express it, to work it out of my system. So I wrote.

The second scene of the first chapter, when Paige enters the kitchen while Danny is cooking, that’s the dream scene. When I started writing Danny originally, Stacey wasn’t a sexual surrogate; she was a friend of Paige’s. And my working title was Cheat. As I wrote, the story morphed and became what it is today.

Writing Paige’s emotional infidelity took some thought. It was a little difficult to put myself into the head of someone who has feelings for a person other than their significant other, because the real-life “Danny” and I are very happy. However, the real challenge came in writing the group love mentality as opposed to a traditional love triangle.

I struggled over how to balance Paige and Danny’s mutual sexual relationship with Stacey with their resurfacing emotional relationship with one another. And, when I began the story, I had no idea how it would end. It wasn’t until I was writing the last chapter that I knew what course the relationship would run. But now, looking back, I can’t imagine it happening any other way.

Paige Warren is sure she’s come to terms with her impending divorce, until she wakes up in bed with her soon-to-be ex, Danny. Worse yet, the bed belongs to Stacey, the sexual surrogate Paige and Danny have been sleeping with for months -- and Stacey’s not there.

As much as Paige tries to deny it, she soon realizes she’s still in love with Danny. Now she’s torn between him and the woman who holds them together. Should she risk hurting Stacey to rekindle a monogamous relationship with the man she once thought she’d spend the rest of her life with, or should she learn from past experience?

Danny is a sensual, erotic novella following one woman's struggle between a love she thought was over and a relationship that's barely begun.
