I am happy to welcome back to Ex Libris and the Let It Snow Books Event the lovely Tamara Morgan, who is not only celebrating the release of her own snowy story In the Clear, but is just as much a fan of snowed in romances as I am! ;-) So please give her a warm welcome and read on to see how she's dreaming of spending her holidays :-)
(Trapped) Home for the Holidays
by Tamara Morgan
Snowbound with the CEO by Shannon Stacey, Snow-Kissed by Laura Florand, While it Was Snowing by Elyssa Patrick—all my favorite authors have holiday releases this year, and I’ve been having a blast glomming them all.
One thing you’ll notice in the case of all three of these authors’ releases this year (and many, many more) is that they share a “snowbound” theme, which happens to be one of my favorites of all time. There’s something so wonderful about the idea of being trapped somewhere warm and toasty for the holidays. Especially if you’re trapped there with someone who intends to share your happily ever after!
Here’s why I want to be trapped for the holidays (and why I think it works so well for romance novels):
• No family. Kids, extended relatives, in-laws, feuding siblings…all of it disappears when you’re trapped behind a wall of snow. And it’s the weather, so it’s not your fault! The only thing you can do is make the most of it.
• You’re always warm. In fiction, no one ever gets snowbound outside in an actual blizzard. There’s always a toasty cabin, a house with a well-stocked fridge, or a hidden pile of blankets to burrow under. (Bonus points if there’s a hot tub!)
• The trappings disappear. I think one of the best things about a snowbound theme is that it allows us to strip away the excesses of the holidays. It’s not about the gifts or the food or the last-minute dash to the store. It’s not about driving for eight hours over a mountain pass to visit relatives. You can sit back, relax, and simply be with the person you love.
Come to think of it…I also wouldn’t mind be trapped in a blizzard all alone. Leave me enough food and wine. Give me a fully stocked Kindle with a charged battery and a dozen or so holiday romance novels.
I promise to enjoy every minute.
