Meet Lucy. She's all about tennis - or she was. Now she wants more. Like a real life.
She'd really like to share it with Sam, who she's admired - on and off the court - ever since she joined the tour. And when fate pushes them together, Lucy begins to wonder if he isn't as far out of her league as she thought.
There's just a few things standing in her way:
First, Joe, her half-hearted boyfriend of the past four years, who fully intends to die on court and doesn't understand why anyone wouldn't want to. He and Sam have been arch-rivals on court for years and Lucy's interest in the other man isn't going to help. But Lucy can't possibly break it off during the biggest tournament in the tennis calendar... can she?
Second, her mother, who has been living through Lucy ever since pregnancy cut her own career short.
When long-suppressed feelings bubble up, Lucy's home life is in danger of sinking before her eyes.
Third, Wimbledon. The tournament Lucy's dreamt of winning since she was a child. The experience that makes real life seem terribly ordinary. The one regret she'll always have... unless she can win it this year.
And lastly, Lucy herself. Because changing your life is never an easy thing to do.
One way or another, things will be different for Lucy after Wimbledon. But how?
Jennifer Gilby Roberts has a degree in physics and a postgraduate certificate in computing, so a career writing fiction was inevitable really. She was born and grew up in Surrey/Greater London, but now lives in Richmond, North Yorkshire with her husband, small daughter, two middle-aged cats and a lot of dust bunnies.
She can also be found getting red-faced at zumba class, reading historical porn (as her husband calls it - Regency romance to the rest of us) and humming nursery rhymes while going round Tesco. Her current obsessions include toffee crisp bars, Costa fruit coolers and the TV show Torchwood.
JGR writes chick lit novels and short stories featuring sweet (occasionally sexy) romance, dry humour and things going tits-up. They will especially appeal to fans of Sophie Kinsella, Marian Keyes and Jane Costello.
5 ebook copies of After Wimbledon are being given away, along with a load of other books, on Jennifer Gilby Roberts' blog, 1-14 March 2014, see the rules there.
