Things I Love Friday! #12

Hey Everyone!

Another week has gone by and there was so much work to be done at the office, that the weekend couldn't have come soon enough! Sadly as soon as Friday rolled around the sun disappeared so it's grey and chilled, brr. So here are this week's things I'm loving this week:
  • flying away to Istanbul next week for a mini-vacation, counting back the days!! :-D
  • receiving a cute chocolate heart from Bf  :-)
  • my sis was visiting for a week and we made plenty of programs: went to get some foot massages, ate tortilla wraps, drank beer and got some facials among many other fun stuff :-)
  • sleeping in! Each morning I woke up way ahead the alarm around 6-7am and can't wait to sleep longer;
  • buying sunscreen. Makes me feel as if summer vacation was just around the corner. And reminds me of summer afternoons spent outside in our garden, reading magazines in my bikini :-)
  • apartment hunting. I feared it would be tedious, but the Bf & I are enjoying it a lot. Seems that we found The One *fingers crossed*
  • getting my new cards. Makes me feel all adult, to be able to hand out cards to business partners, lol ;-P
  •  I'm planning on trying out some new dessert recipes this weekend, can't wait to bake away and then munch on the treats while watching a movie;
  • cranberry tea;
  •  the lovely dark purple/fuchsia geranium my grandma gave me that is on my desk (see photo below) (we recently moved offices, that's why my desk is still visible and not hidden under tons of papers ;-)
Wishing you all a restful weekend! :-)

Recipe for Seducing a Playboy by Gina Gordon and Amanda Usen + Giveaway

You know what a big foodie romance lover I am, so it is with immense pleasure that I welcome to the blog not just one but TWO culinary romance authors! Please give it up to the lovely Amanda Usen and Gina Gordon who are here to tell you about their brand new releases! :-)

Recipe for Seducing a Playboy

Brazen authors Gina Gordon and Amanda Usen debate the best way to get the guy who is playing hard to get.

Amanda: I’m all over this! My husband was a total player when I met him. The best RECIPE FOR SEDUCTION is: drink a half a bottle of Tanqueray and take off your clothes. Oh—wait. That didn’t work. He said no. Because, well…I drank half a bottle of gin. So don’t do that. In small amounts alcohol is an aphrodisiac. In large amounts…not so much.

Gina: So your recipe for SEDUCING THE PLAYBOY was an epic fail. Weird…since getting drunk and taking off my clothes always seals the deal for me :) My tactic of seduction was showing up at my husband’s house after he didn’t cast me in a play. I wore a sexy little black dress with the intention of "auditioning” for him again and…. No, no. Wait. That was an episode of Beverly Hills, 90210. In reality, I was the seducee. I couldn’t resist the cute little shrug he used to give me every time he drank a bit too much at my family’s pub. Seems like alcohol is a theme here. But that can’t be the best way to get the guy.

Amanda: Hey, hey, hey, hang on a minute! Epic fail is a bit strong! He married me after all. ;-) However, if I had it to do all over again, I’d skip the gin and angle for a massage instead. That always works, right? Getting or giving, the backrub ploy is the oldest trick in the book, and rubbing him the right way is a key ingredient in any RECIPE FOR SEDUCTION. Do you have a backrub scene in your book, Gina? I do. My poor hero has a crick in his neck. Start at the top, right?

Gina: Hmmm….well, I don’t have any back or neck massages. But that’s not to say “other” parts aren’t getting massaged. Like with a pair of vibrating panties! Bringing sex toys into the mix is definitely the right choice when SEDUCING THE PLAYBOY. What else caters to an alpha male’s need for control like putting your orgasm in his hands? Literally! Hey, Amanda….a little birdie told me that you’re into vibrating panties, too. Is that something you’d like to share with the group?

Amanda: Ha! I'm not wearing the vibrating panties--my heroine is! In a limousine. In Vegas. With a trunk full of chocolate cream puffs and four different kinds of mousse. Because when it comes to the RECIPE FOR SEDUCTION, batteries are good, but food is better. What's your hot chef hero packing?

Gina: My hero’s packing a spatula. Which he uses for more than just scraping batter out of a mixing bowl *ahem*. Because SEDUCING THE PLAYBOY means being open to different sexual scenarios. Even scenarios that turn something as innocent as making a carrot cake into a kinky fantasy come true...

Amanda: Carrot cake, huh? I’m more of a chocolate girl, but all cake is good cake! But there’s one thing on which we definitely agree. The best RECIPE FOR SEDUCING A PLAYBOY is:
Take one older brother's best friend. Add a heroine who won't take no for an answer. Rub them together with a few drinks and one pair of vibrating panties…and whip up a happy ending!

The best desserts are worth the wait…

Pastry chef Jenna Cooper crushed hard on playboy chef Roman Gallagher when her older brother brought him home to share their family Christmas six years ago. Now she’s old enough to do something about it, and she won’t take no for an answer—for anything.

Out of the frying pan into the fire…

Roman has one hard and fast rule—don’t sleep where you eat. But he can’t say no to Jenna’s plea for him to help her save her family business. Soon she's working for him, and their scorching chemistry melts Roman’s resistance.

If you can’t stand the heat…

Jenna knows Roman has reservations about enjoying the heat between them, but she’s got a plan. She’s going to keep this sexy man so satisfied in—and out—of the kitchen, he won’t regret a thing. But Roman has his own ideas. He wants more than a few hot nights, and he's going to teach Jenna a lesson about playing with fire.

Amanda Usen knows two things for certain: chocolate cheesecake is good for breakfast and a hot chef can steal your heart. Her husband stole hers on the first day of class at the Culinary Institute of America. They married after graduation in a lovely French Quarter restaurant in New Orleans. After enjoying the food and the fun in the Big Easy for a few years, they returned to Western New York to raise a family.

Amanda spends her days teaching pastry arts classes at a local community college and her nights writing romance. She’s a member of the Romance Writers of America ® and the Western New York Romance Writers. When she’s not writing, teaching or baking, she can usually be found chasing the kids around the yard with her very own scrumptious husband.

Let the game of seduction begin…

Veronica Whitfield feels like a frumpy old maid. After ten years of raising her younger siblings, she’s desperate to get her sexy back. And why not find it with the man she’s been in lust with since she was twelve years old—her brother’s best friend, Finn O’Reilly?

Finn is looking for love. And not any love—true love. Complete with the white picket fence, two children, and a dog. He’s just been a little unlucky finding it, and he sure as hell isn’t about to consider his best friend’s little sister for the job, no matter how badly he wants her in his bed.

But then Veronica propositions him with a game of dark, delicious seduction. Finn is tempted to indulge his hidden need for kink, but at what cost? Following through could very well ruin their friendship, but maybe—just maybe—helping Veronica rediscover her sexy side is exactly what he needs to find love at last…

When her dream of becoming a mafia princess didn’t pan out, Gina Gordon went after her second dream…becoming a writer. And she hasn’t looked back.

Gina, a self-proclaimed happily ever after junkie and cupcake connoisseuse, loves spinning contemporary tales of knee bending first kisses, unconditional love and super-hot sex. She broke out onto the romance scene with her #1 Amazon Bestselling erotic short story Her Five Favorite Words that’s been called a “deliciously naughty tale” by Joyfully Reviewed.

When not chained to her computer, you can find Gina sipping Starbucks, making cupcakes or feeding her addiction to celebrity gossip. She lives in Milton, Ontario with her husband and lovable dog.

Things I Love Friday! #10

Hey Everyone!

Another busy week at work has gone by and time to see what makes me happy this week:
  • Thank God for friends! I've had my two best friends since high school, and we speak at least once daily (or even more chats/emails are exchanged per day), and work with some of my friends from university. Let me tell you, it's great!
  • Family. I have the best dad in the world (if you've seen/read Pride and Prejudice you know what I'm talking about when I say we are like Mr. Bennett and Lizzie), and my mom has this talent to reassure you when you have the worst panic attack, was really appreciated during my exams ;-) And my sisters. Just love the whole bunch of them :-)
  • Being missed by Boyfriend when we spend a night apart. Can you say aww? ;-)
  • Make up course this weekend, can't wait!
  • Attending a Murder Mystery Dinner Party set during the Roaring '20s tonight, I've dressed the part (will post photos if available).
  • Feels nice getting an apology and a free meal after filing a customer complaint at my local favourite restaurant.
  • Celebrating Boyfriend's birthday this weekend :-)
  • Summer rain. Love the smell of wet grass and flowers. It's so clean and fresh.
  • Back massages and foot rubs. Want one right now!
Have a great weekend, make some plans or just relax :-)

Things I Love Friday! #9

Hey Everyone!

Another week has gone by and tell me about it! It was an extra busy week after last week's long weekend, it felt like I was away for a longer vacation so many tasks have piled up.

But it's finally Friday so let's see what makes me happy besides the obvious that weekend is just around the corner ;-)
  • bright nail polishes! I'm rocking Rimmel's Kate Moss collection in Hip Hop, which is a bright lighter tomato red creme polish, instant mood booster!
  • cute puppies! Met my godmother yesterday and we walked her new dog, she is just a few months old and so adorable. She didn't give up wanting to climb up in my lap to get closer for a hug :-D
  • my little sister is coming for a week-long visit, we are planning to have plenty of programs like attending a cooking class, a ballet recital, an escape game and many other fun stuff,
  • Pizza night with the boyfriend in a spectacular little peninsula overlooking the river. Fingers crossed it won't rain and we can sit outdoors.
  • bright and fresh, sweet juicy strawberries! This year it seems like strawberry season came early (I remembered June being Strawberry Month), but anyway one of my colleagues got us a big plate of beautiful strawberries as a surprise and they were amazing!
  • receiving a surprise candy bar, cheesecake slice, marzipan balls and chocolate from the Bf "just because" :-)
  • Chuck! We've been watching it lately and we already finished season 2, and I'm loving it more and more. Love the series' humour and how adorable and warmhearted the main character is.
  • fresh salad with ruccola, mozzarella, cherry tomatoes and parmezan. Mmm :-)
  • guacamole dinners
Lol can you see quite a few of the things that make me happy are food related? Guess I'm hungry and it shows ;-)

So what are you happy about this Friday?

Guest post by Sharon Ashwood + Giveaway

Please give a warm welcome to Sharon Ashwood, who stops by with a quite unique post while celebrating the release of her brand new novel: Possessed by a Warrior! Read on and meet the cuteness that is The Demon Lord of Kitty Badness ! ;-) And yes, a giveaway awaits you at the end :-)

The Fine Art of Blogging When You’re Really Very Boring
by Sharon Ashwood

The Demon Lord of Kitty Badness is a fixture of my social media presence in part because he’s far more entertaining and photogenic than I am, and I honestly think he leads a more interesting life.

There’s sometimes a mystery to blogging for a mere human. How to appear interesting and witty? Hmm. All I did today was get groceries and stare at a computer screen. But a cat’s life—sleeping, kibble, playtime—what’s not to like?

And he had such a dramatic beginning, he should have a book of his own. He was abandoned in Fort St. John, British Columbia (Google maps will show you just how far north that is) and finally adopted by me almost a year later in Victoria, BC. He’s lucky our local animal shelter will ship cats around to where there is more demand rather than putting them down. Still, by then he had ringworm (which he kindly shared), an eye infection, and upper respiratory trouble as well as some behavioral issues. It’s been about six years since then and he’s perfectly healthy, although he’s still very much a one-person animal. He’s affectionate with me, but he doesn’t trust easily.

So why am I telling you about my cat? Because when I want to show people who I am, my bond with the Demon Kitty is one of the better parts of me. And after all, the point of blogging to the wide world is to reveal a little bit—the best bits—of the personality behind the name on my book cover.

And by the best bits I mean that you, dear readers, never have to deal with the Monday morning sulky me, or the morning-after-the-deadline me (just grunt twice for yes, once for no), or the why-am-I-up-now me that occasionally emerges when I feel guilty about missing the gym. In case you’re haven’t caught it by now, I’m not a morning person. At all. Especially not when I’m awakened by a cat sitting on my head.

So to round out my likes/dislikes, here are six things I look forward to:

• Friday at quitting time
• Red licorice twists. I know they taste like vinyl, but they’re chewy.
• Stumbling across great presents for people
• Trying new recipes and/or restaurants (I think I just like food)
• Writing a really good line that makes me laugh
• Grimm (the TV show). I adore Monroe.

And of course my books are extensions of who I am, because it’s impossible to cover 300 pages without leaving a lot of oneself behind. However, like the kitty, my characters lead much more interesting lives than I do!

Although there aren’t any cats involved in my book series, there are three vampires and a werewolf (secret operatives! James Bond with fangs!), all of whom are just about as troublesome as felines. And they do get taken in from the cold and given loving homes, but in a roundabout way that includes spies, intrigue, gunmen, and derring-do. (I like an alpha with a good swash in his buckle.) There’s a royal wedding, too, complete with an ancient feud and crown jewels. These books were SO MUCH FUN to write!

So there we are . . . a blog from someone who shuttles from the home computer to the day job computer and just tried very hard to sound funny and fascinating! I see the Demon Kitty is giving me the green-eyed glare that indicates an empty food bowl. That’s my cue to sign off and be subservient.

But before I go, here’s a question—how much do you think an author’s personality shows up in their writing? Do you think it matches what they show in blogs or other social media? Does that matter to you as a reader?

Things I Love Friday! #8

Hey Everyone!

Sorry the weekend was so busy I forgot to finalize and schedule the post so here it is a bit late.

Here were the things that made me smile last Friday:
  • 4 day long weekend, yay!
  • celebrating Mothers' Day with my mom and grandma on Sunday
  • cooking brunch with the Bf: scrambled eggs with salad, freshly squeezed orange juice, tea, apple pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, yum :-)
  • yoga! I was able to go to 2 classes in the 4 days and I really felt the difference. Love how my flexibility and stamina improved.
  • my Dad visiting for a couple of days
  • baking cheesecake and having the entire apartment smell wonderful thanks to the lemon-vanilla combo, mmm.. :-)
  • booking our hostel for our stay in Istanbul in June, so excited! :-)
  • watching series while cuddling
  • Tom Yum fried rice with shrimp, delicious!
  • listening to the rain pouring outside while curling up under the duvet.

And how was your weekend? :-)
