How to cool off your muse? by Maggie Nash + Giveaway

Banner made by Beth from Maybe Tomorrow?
Today I have the pleasure to welcome to the blog (suspense) romance author Maggie Nash, who has the misfortune of having to work in a sweltering heatwave in Australia (can I say I'm jealous? I'd rather exchange the snow and icy wind for some sun and warmth!). So she thought she would share with us a few tips on how to cool down - though for me reading her tips only made me feel hot ;-p, so read on and decide for yourself. And of course a surprise will await you at the end. :-)

Fun and exciting ways for your muse to cool off
by Maggie Nash

Sweltering days and hot summer nights in a romance novel usually conjure up images of lots of steamy set and sweaty bodies getting it on skin to skin. Hoo wee!

As a writer however, it’s challenging writing any scenes, let alone the hot scenes in the middle of a heat wave. I can tell you first hand that heat sucks. Okay, that’s not the most eloquent of descriptions, but hey- I’m creatively challenged today. It’s day 6 of over 30º C temperatures here in Sydney town. For my US friends, that’s high 90’s and low 100’s. Actually yesterday was 106º here in my suburb. So yep…brain not working.

But enquiring minds probably want some corroborating evidence on that one.

Okay. Sure. What was I saying again? :::taps fingers on the keyboard:::

Just give me a minute to take some deep breaths and an injection of energy.

Science will tell us that the body does not like to be overheated. Performance slows down. The body starts to compensate as soon as the brain receives heated blood. As body temperature rises, the brain sends out instructions to decrease the muscle tone. Individuals feel tired and listless, and not able to work as well. Not only does production suffer as a result, but also the individual feels more of the burden of work. It becomes increasingly harder to perform their regular tasks.

Sheesh, no wonder I can’t get my muse to cooperate!

So, what does one do to free the brain and let the muse function again?

The obvious solution is to stay cool. Of course there’s the air conditioner, the pool, the beach etc but I wanted to find some more fun and sexy and creative ways to get cool so I made a list:

1. Go skinny dipping, preferably with someone tall, dark and built :-)
2. Freeze a wet towel and get your toy boy to wipe you down with it
3. Place your toys in the freezer for an hour before using, or better yet, before someone uses them on you :-)
4. Save water, cold shower with a friend.
5. Have a naked date with your man. Make sure the fan is on so you don’t get too hot!

I know where I want to be right now!

So what’s your favourite way to cool down on a hot night?

Post your answer here and go into the drawer to win a copy of any of my backlist books.

Her latest release is a steamy suspense thriller THE DREAM MASTER.
The Dream MasterPolice detective Helena Peters has been secretly in love with her partners for years. It doesn’t help that he never looks at her as anything other than his work partner. What would he do if he discovered what she was really thinking?

His classic Greek looks were responsible for Dimitri Michaels’ arrogant success with women, so going undercover and pretending to be lovers with Helena should be a piece of cake, but she isn’t the person he thought she was.

Here’s what the reviewers are saying:

“ I found this a very unique plot. It had mystery and intrigue and was a refreshing read from the everyday "hero meets heroine and falls in love" type plot” - Whipped Cream Reviews
