Backstage Pass: Sinners on Tour

Sinners on the Tour Bus
by Olivia Cunning

When Backstage Pass was released in October of 2010, I did a lot of blog posts about the lead characters of the book. I talked all about Brian Sinclair (rock GOD and lead guitarist of the metal band, Sinners), his reluctant heroine (human sexuality professor Myrna Evans), and the much-adored other members of the band--Sed, Jace, Eric and Trey. Throughout my entire blog tour, I never once mentioned Sinners’ brave and often mistreated tour bus. That tour bus has seen some things.
If those walls could talk...

I think I’ll let them. Let’s start with a tour of the bus to familiarize ourselves with its layout and then we’ll let the bus share a few Sinners’ secrets. Do you like secrets? If they’re about Sinners, they’re guaranteed to be juicy.

Sinners actually has two tour buses. Both are black and silver. The road crew rides in one and the band on the other. I’d elaborate on why the roadies’ bus is called the “pigsty bus”, but I’m not sure you want to know. It’s a sleeper bus, which means it has lots of bunks (12), but no decent kitchen. The band’s bus is a little homier.

When you enter the front of Sinners’ tour bus, there’s a driver’s area straight ahead and then the rest of the bus is like a cramped apartment on wheels. Turn to your left, take a few steps, and you’ll be in the living area. If you’re facing the back of the bus, there’s a sofa to your right and a pair of captain chairs to your left. The upholstery is soft, buff-colored leather. Above the captain chairs is a plasma TV. The guys like to sit on the sofa and play video games together, jam on their guitars (that would be Brian and Trey’s thing), watch TV, etc. There’s also a stereo system which gets some interesting play time in Rock Hard (book 2 of the Sinners of Tour series, coming out in April). Further in, you’ll find the kitchen area on the left and a dining area to the right. Whatever you do, don’t eat anything that’s in that fridge. You have been warned. The dining area has a small, square table with two booths. Ever see five hungry guys try to cram themselves in two small booths and claim their fair share of a home-cooked meal? It’s rather fun. Myrna takes good care of the guys when she’s on tour with them. I’d also like to warn you against eating Eric’s “famous” scrambled eggs. Just don’t do it. You’ll thank me. You also have to make sure there is plenty of ketchup for Brian. He puts ketchup on everything. And I do mean everything. Even Myrna. Trey requires a large stash of cherry suckers.

Next we have the bathroom on the right. It’s very small. To quote Eric (who is 6’6”), “you can’t turn around in it without hitting your elbows”, but it has all necessary facilities, including a shower that fits two (snugly). Just sayin’...

Further down the main corridor there are four bunks--two stacked on each side. They are concealed behind curtains for privacy. Yeah, as if there is any privacy on a tour bus. A tour bus gives a whole new meaning to the term “roommates”. The guys sleep in the bunks when they’re on the road. Well, four of them do. On the right side, we have drummer Eric on the top bunk and vocalist Sed on bottom. On the left side, we have lead guitarist Brian on top and rhythm guitarist Trey on the bottom. And then there’s bassist Jace. He’s the newest member of the band, so he doesn’t have a regular bunk. He ends up sleeping in whichever bunk is empty. Why would a bunk be empty? Let’s take a look at the bedroom, which is always occupied by at least one member of the band. Yeah, you know why.

At the very back of the bus, there’s a bedroom with just enough room for a narrow closet (crammed with clothes and Jace’s special suitcase of delights), a long dresser (where Brian keeps his lucky hat--Backstage Pass readers with get that reference), an end table (with a drawer that houses very interesting things) and a queen-sized bed that has seen a lot of miles. And I don’t mean on the road. There’s also a hook in the ceiling above the bed. Jace put it there. Why? You’ll have to read the book and find out, now won’t you? (I’m an incurable tease, by the way.) There is a small window in the bedroom and a few black-tinted ones in the main cabin, but Sinners like it dark. There are also luggage compartments under the bus where they store things they don’t need regularly. Like Jon Mallory. Just kidding...

Well, that’s your personal tour of Sinners’ tour bus. It’s almost like you’re a groupie or something. Why else would you be on their bus? Now I’ll let the bus share a few secrets.

Sinners’ Tour Bus: It’s about time. I didn’t think she’d ever let me talk. I’ve been on the road with these guys for two years now. Sinners bought me soon after their third album, Shattered, went platinum. Their old tour bus was a total piece of crap, so you’d think they’d treat me better and not throw their dirty clothes, beer cans, and empty food containers all over the place. No such luck. We’ve been on tour for 20 months of those two years. They’ve put an obscene amount of miles on me already. The guys work hard. They play hard, too. Their music is hard. Everything about them is hard. ...rock hard.

I suppose you want those secrets now. Nothing incriminating. I wouldn’t want them to get into too much trouble.

Brian’s secret: Brian hides his girly magazines under his bunk mattress. That’s not really a secret though. The other guys help themselves on a regular basis. He also hides love letters under there. Not very smart of him.

Sed’s secret: The record for ‘the most women Sed has pleasured simultaneously’ currently stands at four. His real secret is the picture, the folded paper and the ring he keeps hidden in his pocket. He only takes it out at night when he’s suffering from insomnia. I wonder why he has so much trouble sleeping.

Jace’s secret: Jace trained to be a professional boxer. Yeah. So why doesn’t he kick Eric’s butt for picking on him all the time? I don’t get it.

Eric’s secret: Eric hides in the bathroom for over an hour sometimes. What’s he doing in there? He’s reading Shakespeare. Don’t tell the guys. They think he’s helping himself, if you know what I mean.

Trey’s secret: Trey is in love with another member of the band. I’m not saying who. He’s having a hard enough time dealing with it as it is. He makes himself feel better by indulging in all things cherry.

I hope you enjoyed your tour of the bus and a few of Sinners’ secrets. There are plenty more to be discovered in the Sinners on Tour series. Backstage Pass is available now, and book 2, Rock Hard, will be released at the beginning of April.

Combining her love for romantic fiction and rock ‘n roll, Olivia Cunning writes erotic romance centered around rock musicians. Raised on hard rock music from the cradle, she attended her first Styx concert at age six and fell instantly in love with live music. She's been known to travel over a thousand miles just to see a favorite band in concert. As a teen, she discovered her second love, romantic fiction -- first, voraciously reading steamy romance novels and then penning her own. Growing up as the daughter of a career soldier, she's lived all over the country and overseas. She currently lives in Nebraska, but never stays in one place too long.

But when sexy psychology professor Myrna Evans comes on tour to study groupie mentality, Brian may have found the spark he needs to reignite his musical genius. When lust turns to love, will Brian be able to convince Myrna that what they have is more than just a fling, and that now that he's found his heart's muse, he doesn't want to live without her?
