Novellus superbus!
Goodreads appetizer: He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.

Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.

Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.

Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?

My Thoughts: After feeling a little bit let down by Opal, the third book in the Lux series, I have to admit that I was both excited and a little bit afraid of the adult spin off of one of my favorite series. But, Jennifer Armentrout worked her miracles again and Obsession was plainly amazing!

I loved everything about it. How it gave us a different perspective about a world we thought we knew all about. Who would have thought that an Arum could not only be sexy as hell (dah, it's a character written by JLA, so how could he not be sexy!) but actually one of the good guys while our beloved Luxens aren't all full of light and goodness. Talking about a whole different perspective of things! JLA just surprised me and in a very pleasant way with Obsession!

Hunter and Serena are a great couple. No big surprises here. If this author can do perfect one thing (and she does many, for that you can be certain) that is creating couples that stick to your mind, not only because their chemistry is sizzling hot but because their constant bickering is amazing and hilarious! So yeah, Hunter and Serena are a great set of characters and I so hope that they will somehow stick to the original series in some way. Hunter is sexy. And arrogant. And a great guy hidden in a domineering facade. While Serena is maybe one of my favorite heroines of this author's books. She's sweet and smart and she doesn't have to put much of an effort to persuade the reader of that. Her reactions are believable. We don't get any scenes where she hears the unlikely truth of aliens living among us and she just accepts it just because the plot says she has to. She struggles with the truth. She laughs at it. But she finally believes in all the crazy things she learns. And for that reason, I absolutely loved her. For that and because she's strong and kind and believes in the good in people... or aliens!

The pace of the story is fast and there's lots of action, so there's not even a single moment when you feel bored while reading Obsession. And when there's no action (between sheets or otherwise!) Hunter and Serena's constant bickering makes sure you feel entertained until the next big revelation comes!

Here I have to note that Obsession is probably a book all fans of the Lux series should read and that is because the things happening here I gather that will have a crucial role in the next instalments of the YA series. So be warned, make yourselves a favour and read Obsession! You won't regret it for a number of reasons!

Verdict: Obsession was another great story written in a way only Jennifer Armentrout can. Fans of this author will fall in love with this adult spin off of their favorite YA series and will find themselves unable to pick between a sexy Luxen and a brooding (but sexy nonetheless) Arum. Oh the dilemmas of life!
