Let It Snow Books: Guest post by Jennifer Shirk + Giveaway

One of the reasons of the Let It Snow Books 2013 Event is to show you once again with 2013 drawing to an end some of the best books we have had the chance to read this year, and Kissing Kendall by Jennifer Shirk certainly made that list, as it was one of the biggest surprises/revelations for me. Want to know why? Then read my review! ;-) And until then take a seat, a virtual cookie and get to know its author, Jennifer Shirk abit better. You could even win one of her fun and delicious romances! ;-)

Hi, all! Jennifer here!

'Tis the season and all that, so...BRING ON THE CHRISTMAS COOKIES ALREADY!

Some of you may not know this, but I'm a bit of a foodie. I make about seven different kinds of Christmas cookies every year. Sometimes eight. Depends on whether I have a book on deadline or not. :)

Anyhew, about two years ago I was invited to a "cookie swap". I baked my little heart out for it, making I forget how many dozens of this very one type of very intricate pecan cookie that is by no means a pleasure to bake but so good. (Check out recipe HERE) But I did that, figuring everybody was probably putting in the same effort so we all could take home some really nice Christmas cookies at the end of the night.

Um, WRONGO.

One woman ended up BUYING cookies and bringing them to the swap. Who does that? Another woman bought the Pillsbury "plop and drop" cookie dough and brought them. Seriously?

So then we changed the tradition. We decided to step it up a bit and charge $20 a woman to enter and bring Christmas cookies. Then we get an impartial judge and whoever has the best cookie wins the whole pot. We call it COOKIES FOR CASH. It's worked every Christmas!

Can I just say that now I bring home AWESOME cookies from the cookie swap! It's a pretty cut-throat competition, which is exactly what you want around the holidays. LOL! But we have a lot of fun too.

In my BLISS book KISSING KENDALL, one of my books that's up for giveaway, there are no mention of cookies, but plenty of other yummy baked goods including Kendall's infamous doughnut muffins. There is a recipe for it in the back of the book. It's a definite MUST-TRY around the holidays and...well, ANYTIME. :)

Thanks so much to Stella and Anna at Ex Libris for inviting to this great holiday event and allowing me to share my Christmas cookie tradition with you all.

I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas and wonderful holiday season!

What about you? Any cookie bakers out there? Do you participate in any cookie swaps? What's your favorite Christmas cookie?

Jennifer Shirk has a bachelor degree in pharmacy--which has in NO WAY at all helped her with her writing career. But she likes to point it out, since it shows romantic-at-hearts come in all shapes, sizes, and mind-numbing educations.

She writes sweet (and sometimes even funny) romances for Samhain Publishing, Avalon Books/Montlake Romance and now Entangled Publishing. She won third place in the RWA 2006 NYC's Kathryn Hayes Love and Laughter Contest with her first book, The Role of a Lifetime.

Lately she's been on a serious exercise kick. But don't hold that against her.

Kissing Kendall by Jennifer Shirk

Kendall Grisbaum is finally taking charge of her life—pouring her heart into opening a new bakery business and even allowing her best friend Georgie to play matchmaker for her. Trouble is, the one guy she secretly wants is Georgie’s older brother, Brad, who is decidedly off limits.

Brad can’t seem to get his little sister’s best friend out of his mind. He and Kendall used to be close friends, too, and as a local policeman, Brad can’t help but play protector, looking out for Kendall. When he offers to help her renovate her new bakery space on the side, their friendship—and their attraction—flares back to life.

Amid the temptation of doughnut muffins and blueberry cobbler, a new temptation draws them both closer. Can they take a chance on love when it means risking their friendship, even when not doing so risks everything?
